The JoGo Project is a WAMMIE Award–winning jazz and go-go band from Washington, DC, founded in 2014 by saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed. Blending the improvisation of jazz with the pulse of DC’s go-go tradition, JoGo has become a staple of the DMV music scene, performing at venues such as Blues Alley, the Kennedy Center, and the DC Jazz Festival, while expanding nationally. In 2018, the band made history as the first go-go group to perform in Russia on a U.S. State Department cultural diplomacy tour. From 2021–2023, JoGo held a monthly residency at Keystone Korner Baltimore, co-produced by NEA Jazz Master Todd Barkan. With multiple original releases and award-winning songs, JoGo continues to push go-go forward through innovation, community, and global reach.
